Preparation of Guidelines for Seismically Safe Design of Hospitals
Tehran is a seismically vulnerable city. Hospitals are the main center for medical treatment of people injured in the event of a strong earthquake in this city. Although observing a number of regulations such as National Building Code or Standard 2800 is mandatory in design of new hospitals, currently a single comprehensive set of guidelines for design of this type of buildings which covers all aspects such as architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical design and ensures desired safe performance of them. Realizing such a shortcoming, Tehran City Council has asked Tehran Municipality to prepare and enforce such a comprehensive guideline. In this regard JDD has been asked by Tehran Municipality to prepare the subject guidelines, considering the existing National and regional statuary regulations as well as international experience related to design of new hospitals and retrofit of existing ones.
